Before Caim reached the inn, he saw an old man by the street selling various items and noticed an old book with a strange symbol on it. 'Hmm...is that a rune?' Runes were symbols that were used by blacksmiths to enhance weapons by enchanting them with a special property. To be recognized as a master blacksmith, they were recquired to have the ability of engraving runes on their works. Caim specialized on runes that provided fire properties and fire resistance so he was not familiar with other types of runes.
'...it might be useful.' Caim bought the book for a very cheap price and was happy about it. But after opening the book, he saw that it was indeed very old and he could hardly read anything on it. He tried returning it but the old man refused to give his money back.
'Damn, I wasted money on a useless book. What to do with it?...' Suddenly, Caim got an idea. Grinning, he went back to the inn.
The next day, Surk and his master went to the stadium a lot earlier. His master had told him that the match was going to be a team battle so he had to get there early to meet his team mates. Since it was the final day of the competition. All of the competitors were already there and most of the stadium was already filled with spectators.
"Since all of the competitors are here, I'll start announcing the teams." The announcer started with team a and it's member, and continued with the other teams.
"Lastly, team e will be composed of Elenor, a magician, Ryne, an archer, Surk, a swordsman, Fay, a rogue, and Melik, a monk. Now that all the teams have been announced, please look for your teams and position yourselves on stage" After the announcement, Surk started searching for his teammates.
On the north eastern side of the stage, he heard someone call his name. "Team e here looking for Surk! Is anybody named Surk here?...if you don't come here soon, I'll use you as a punching back." A tall muscular brown haired guy said this. The three girls beside him giggled at what he said. Surk approached them quickly.
"Um...Hi. I am Surk" Surk greeted the man who was Melik. Melik turned to see who it was and saw a short beautiful black haired girl?
'What? I thought the swordsman in my team would be a man and at least look stronger than me. Sigh. Well...at least she has to be strong to have made it this far' Melik smiled despite his disappointment and introduced Surk to the rest of the team.
"As you might have guessed, I am Melik, a monk. I specialize using my fist and maces. I also can use basic healing. This red haired girl is Fay, a rouge. She's fast with daggers and can throw them with deadly accuracy."
A red haired girl wearing a black shirt covered in a red jacket, and a black mini shorts, extended her hand towards Surk.
"Hey Surk, nice ta meetcha." Surk shook her hand. "Same here." Surk smiled.
'Such an awfully cute smile. It makes me want to tease her.' Fay grinned as she shook his hand.
"The black haired girl wearing the blue cloak beside her is Elenor, a magician. She mostly uses lightning element spells along with a few ice spells."
"Um...I hope we'll get along well..." Elenor and Surk shook hands. "Dont worry, we will." Surk assured her with a smile. *thump *thump *thump 'Wa waa...idiot! She's a girl!' Elenor slightly turned red and lowered her head.
"Lastly, the one wearing the brown suit with the large silver bow on her hand is Ryne, an archer with incredible speed and godlike precision. She has never missed a shot!"
Ryne laughed. "Melik, you exaggerate too much!" Both Ryne and Melik smiled. Ryne shook Surk's hand.
"Hi Surk. Don't worry, I'll cover your back." Surk was thankful for this. "Thanks Ryne, please take care of me"
"Now that everyone's here, let's strategize." Melik took command of the team. "Surk, Fay and I will protect Elenor and Ryne from anyone who gets too close to them. Elenor and Ryne, you guys...err girls take care of attacking the other teams. Focus on the other team's magicians and archers first. Does anyone have other suggestions?"
Surk and the rest of them agreed to the plan as they prepared and watched the other teams.
Not far from them on the northern side of the stage, Surk noticed 4 men and 1 woman observing them and the other teams. 'Hmm...2 archers, a magician, a...cleric, and is she an assassin? Since we're the team nearest to them, they'll probably attack us first. I better watch out for them.'
Surk continued to watch the other teams on the southern side of the stage. One team was in the middle while the other 2 teams were on its sides. The team in the middle had 2 warriors, 2 swordsman, and an archer. The team on its western side had a monk, a magician, a mercenary wielding a scythe, an archer, and a warrior carrying a large double bladed axe. On the eastern side, a spearman, a swordsman, a rouge, a magician, and a warrior carrying two axes.
Not far from the stage, the announcer for the competition said,"Now that all the teams have formed themselves on stage, the team battle can now begin. Teams prepare yourselves. The battle will start at my signal. 1, 2, 3. Begin!"
